Stephane Mbia joins Sevilla injury list

Sevilla will need to fall back on all their squad options this weekend, when they take on Córdoba at the Sánchez-Pizjuan, following an unfortunate series of injury setbacks that rule out trio Aspas, Mbia and Coke for the next month.

Mbia, Aspas and Coke are all ruled out of contention for this weekend’s La Liga encounter with Córdoba and further weeks, with all suffering from a variety of muscular problems, the medical department at Sevilla announced.

28-year-old Cameroon international Stéphane Mbia has suffered a thigh injury, which is expected to keep him out of action for an estimated two to three weeks. Iago Aspas, who has been enjoying more prominence of late, is also a casualty.

The 27-year-old striker has an abductor muscle problem, which also puts him out of action for between three to four weeks. The third blow is that right-back and vice-captain, Coke, who has torn fibres in the semimembranosus muscle of his left thigh. He is also sidelined for three to four weeks.

Meanwhile and following fears that goalkeeper Beto might require surgery, after dislocating his shoulder in an ugly crunch with Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema, there’s a little more positive news regarding his recovery.

Following specialist consultation in Lisbon, the Sevilla medical department have declared that due to improved articulation over recent days, the Portuguese keeper will no longer require such an invasive procedure. However, they have still estimated that he will remain out of action for around eight weeks.
