Eto’o watches his new club Sampdoria draw 1-1 with Palermo

Samuel Eto’o watched his new Sampdoria team-mates draw 1-1 with Palermo at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris after completing a medical as he prepares to join the Serie A club from Everton.

Sampdoria hope the 33-year-old Cameroon striker will provide the extra firepower to secure a Champions League qualifying place.

They lie fourth at present though, if they had maintained the early lead given them by Eder, Sampdoria would have gone second. As it was Franco Vázquez equalised after the break and eighth-placed Palermo were unlucky not to turn their second-half dominance into a victory.

Sampdoria, coached by Sinisa Mihaljovic, with 34 points from 20 games, moved above Rafael Benítez’s Napoli.

Paul Pogba scored one goal and created another as the leaders, Juventus, beat Chievo 2-0. The France midfielder opened up a close encounter in Turin with a well-struck effort on the hour before setting up the Swiss international Stephan Lichtsteiner for the second after 74 minutes.
