Qualifying for World Cup is terrific- captain

Qualifying for the World Cup, Canada 2015 for the first time is terrific; it is the dream of every footballer, lionesses’ captain Manie Christine has said. “It is really extra-ordinary, we worked hard and we have been rewarded with the victory and qualification”.

Cameroon made a feat yesterday, beating Ivory Coast 2-1 in extra time to qualify for their first World Cup in the history of the women national team.

After ninety minutes of regular time with a score of 1-1 on both sides, Manie Christine liberated Cameroon at the 118 miute of the game. This earned her the man of the match title and was awarded a trophy at the end of the encounter.

It was no easy walk to qualification for the World Cup and the finals of the ninth edition of African Women Championship. “Reaching the semi-finals is not easy, it is not just any team that gets the semi-finals and Ivory Coast is a good team.

“Playing this kind of match and winning at the 118 minute is the joy of football. This is also evidence that Cameroon have a strong mentality”. Manie says it was great to score the goal that liberated Cameroon adding that it could have been someone else.

The defender who plays for Romania says, “It was marvelous as the head of this group to have scored, I have to be an example for my younger sisters, and the opportunity came.”

“We can’t thank God enough for being with us and will continue to be with us, and we are going to fight hard to get the trophy”.

The team is going to rest, recuperate and prepare for another duel against Nigeria on Saturday, October 25.
