Samuel Eto'o eager for debut chance against former club Chelsea

The Cameroonian striker only joined as a free agent on Tuesday evening but he is already keen to get involved for the Toffees.

Samuel Eto'o claims he does not have a problem with Jose Mourinho ahead of his reunion with the Chelsea boss on Saturday.

Mourinho ignored Eto'o for most of his time at Chelsea last season, claiming the former Barcelona and Inter Milan striker was too old.

Eto'o, 33, says he bears no grudges against Mourinho after joining Everton on a free transfer.

"The only thing I have to say about Jose Mourinho is to thank him," he said.

"It's really down to Jose Mourinho that I had the chance to be accepted into the Premier League and to play some great matches and I thank him for that."

Eto'o claims he will not have any extra motivation if he does make his Everton debut against Chelsea on Saturday evening at Goodison Park.

"I'm not particularly concerned about that it's against my ex team," said the Cameroon star.

"The most important thing at the moment is to integrate with my new team-mates and get myself ready in training potentially for that match.

"If it's not the case, and I don't feature, it's important for me to get my head into the training and preparation here."

Eto'o rejected offers from various clubs, including AC Milan and West Ham, to sign his two-year deal with Everton and says he was attracted by Roberto Martinez's vision.

"In the last 10 days, I have travelled quite a lot," he said. "I have spoken to quite a few managers of teams.

"It's fair to say, I am now nearer the end of my career than the start and I was looking for a location where I would fit in where my contribution would be valued.

"Over the course of those travels, the most inspiring and the person who allowed me to believe my contribution would best correspond was Roberto Martinez."
