Amajita depart for Cameroon

The South African Men’s Under 20 National Team (Amajita) are on their way to Yaounde for the third round first leg 2015 African Youth Championship qualifier against Cameroon which will be played on Saturday.

Amajita jetted out in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday, 13 August) at 12h40 to Nairobi, Kenya where they will catch a connecting flight to Yaounde.

They are expected in the West African country on Wednesday afternoon.

The match will take place at the Omnisports Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium, with a 16h00 (SA time) kickoff.

“I have been telling the boys this is the final hurdle. What happened in West Africa on our tour recently will now be of great assistance, as the players know what to expect. I have full confidence in the squad that we have that we will return with positive results,” said coach Shakes Mashaba before the squad’s departure.

The overall winner between South Africa and Cameroon will qualify for the 19th edition of the African Youth Championships (AYC), which will be held in Senegal from 8 – 22 March in 2015.

The top four at the AYC will represent Africa at the 2015 Fifa U20 World Cup tournament in New Zealand.

After calling up 19 players to camp, the coach had to leave behind one player – Phillip Ndlondlo – as he needs only 18 players.

Earlier, Mashaba included four new players in the squad that was part of the West Africa tour. Khumbulani Mkhize, Morne Nel, Tshepo Chaine and Siyanda Ngubo have all been called up to replace Jody February, Bandile Shandu, Yagan Sasman and Thembinkosi Mbamba.

The return leg will take place on Sunday, 31 August In Polokwane.
