Shooting Sports Range Under Construction Near Yaounde

The Cameroon shooting sport federation, FECATIRS has embarked on an ambitious project to construct a state of the art shooting stand in Nto'o, a village near Nkometou, some 21 kilometres from Yaounde.

The stand will enable amateurs of shooting sport to be able to practise categories of the disciplines including shooting at 10m, 25, 50 m and 300 m ranges. It will also comprise a recreational centre for athletes, an infirmary as well as a football pitch. The project for now is being entirely sponsored by the federation with the support of a benefactor, Anaba Mvogo Pierre. Hence the president of the federation, Colonel Dieudonné Ayissi appealed for sponsors to enable this dream come to reality.

Though work is in progress, the shooting stands for the 25 and 50 m ranges have been arranged tentatively to enable athletes practise. The stands comes in time because Cameroon will be taking part in the 5th edition of the regional shooting competition in Niger and the stand will serve as preparation ground for them. To inaugurate the stands, a shooting competition and training session took place in Nto'o on Tuesday bringing together clubs from the National Gendarmerie and police as well as civilians.

Kombo Ottou Beatrice confirmed her leadership status by obtaining the best score of the day. According to the training expert, Philippe Balandier, the training which has been going on for more than three weeks, is warranted by the fact that new arms have been acquired and the shooting range extended from 10 m to 25 m and 50 m, hence the need to train athletes on the use of these new arms and shooting at long range..
