Samuel Eto’o: Song should leave Barcelona

The Indomitable Lions captain, Samuel Eto’o, believes that Alex Song could play for “any big club” in Europe if he left the La Liga giants, Barcelona.

According to him, Song who is still to get regular play time “has to leave” Barcelona to make the most of his talent elsewhere.

"Song has to leave Barca," Eto'o told BeIn Sport. "At his age, he must play and he could be in the starting XI at any big club."

Since moving to Camp Nou in the summer of 2012, Song is still struggling to get regular football. He has made just 33 appearances for the club with just 9 La Liga starts.

It should be noted that back in October 2012, while answering a question on Canal Plus about whether the problem between the "two stars"(Eto'o and Song) had been resolved, Eto'o blasted his compatriot; "There is no conflict between stars to speak of, because I'm one of the best players in the world and Song isn't even among the best in Cameroon."

Therefore, this will be good news for Cameroonians as it now shows that there is some reunion back in the Lions’ den if Eto'o can come out to praise Song.

Still on the programme on BeIn Sport, Eto’o hit out at his former coach at FC Barcelona, Pep Guardiola, calling him a “coward”.

"Guardiola has never had the courage to say things in front of me. He passed by the players. Xavi told me they wanted me to stay but I had to talk to Pep. I say never, if you do not respect me, I do not respect you,"

He also went on to point out some lies that were told to ridicule his personality.

"What hurt me is that they invent things that the press relayed. They wanted to send me to Uzbekistan. I stayed at my place and I told him that he will apologize for that in the future.??

Eto’o, however, did not stop there as he also claimed Jose Mourinho “sometimes loses his mind” in the build-up to big matches.

"He becomes someone else in the build-up to matches,” he told BeIn Sport. “Like any human being, he sometimes loses his mind. He proved it sometimes like when he did it with me [by calling me old] but he takes all the pressure on himself.”

Eto’o, who is sidelined for a couple of weeks, hopes that he will be fit for their Champions League quarter finals tie against French Ligue 1 giants, Paris Saint Germain, PSG.
