In their bid for a ticket to the final of the 17th edition of the Women's volleyball African Championship in Nairobi, Kenya, the Lionesses returned empty-handed after facing Kenya in the semifinals of this competition played yesterday at Moi International Sports Center, Kasarani, Nairobi.

The Lionesses could not do any better this time against the host nation, the holder of the trophy since 2009 and eight-time winners of the title, beating Cameroon 0-3 (14-25, 17-25 and 22-25).

The girls of Jean René Akono after losing the first two sets wanted to reduce the score but it was in vain and eventually lost by three points. Cameroon, double finalist (1999 and 2013) and four times third (199, 2001, 2003 and 2009) will try to snatch 3rd place synonymous with the bronze medal on Saturday.

They will face the Terranga Lionesses who never obtained a 3rd. The two teams will compete for the classification match for 3rd and 4th place.

Categorized in group B, Lionesses had recorded two wins and one loss in the group match. This defeat was recorded last Friday against Senegal by 2 sets to 3. They were caught up in their last two outings with Morocco (3-0) and then Tunisian (3-2).

In the other semi -final match between Algeria and Senegal, Algeria was more realistic by winning the match 3 sets to 0 ( 25-14 , 25-17 , 25-22 ). The results will be obtained after the semi-finals scheduled on Saturday and will provide a tantalizing match between Kenya and Algeria.

The teams under the regulation and the challenge of the competition will participate in the next Women's World Volleyball Championship which starts from 22 August to 6 September in Japan.
