The International Federation of Football Association (FIFA) published its traditional ranking for national football teams on Thursday, August 6, 2015.

The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, who won in the match against Mauritania (1-0) for the Gabon 2017 AFCON playoffs, maintained their 42nd position in the FIFA rankings this month. They are therefore at a stand-still. On the other hand, Mauritania, which has however played and won friendly matches in July, shows a clear growth with 15 places forward (113).

Gambia, which is to play against Cameroon come September 2015 for the second day of Gabon 2017 AFCON qualification, also moved a step forward in the FIFA ranking (142). South Africa was the only team in Cameroon’s, for the Gabon 2017 AFCON qualifiers, that lost it place. The Bafana Bafana team are now ranked 72nd, representing a fall of two places.

The African podium has not changed. Algeria (19th) remains the best team of the continent, followed by Côte d'Ivoire (21st) and Ghana (27th). Though the first two maintained the same positions, Ghana however lost two places.

At the global level, it was the same status quo. Argentina ranked first, Belgium second and Germany remained at the third position.
