Former Super Falcons coach, Ismaila Mabo, has said the team should work on their defence as they battle Cameroon for a place in the final of the women’s football event in the ongoing All Africa Games in Congo.

The Falcons on Saturday suffered their first loss to Ivory Coast when they fell 2-1 in their last group matches.

The loss made them finish second in the group thus booking a date with Cameroon in Tuesday’s semi-final.

According to Mabo, the team had the ability to end the competition unbeaten but for their defence, which he said, should be worked on.“The Falcons are a team everybody wants to beat because of their past records. When we are talking of African women’s football, Nigeria still hold a very important place but we have to work harder to retain it.

“In the present competition, they need to work more on their defence. The coach may have rested some key players for Saturday’s match but the defence made some mistakes and their opponents scored he added

“They don’t really have problems attacking considering the number of goals they have scored, it is their defence they should reinforce in their next match against Cameroon.”

The former coach warned that the Cameroonians have always been tough opponents for Nigeria and advised the team to be very careful in their approach.
He said, “Cameroon are a tough side. They are strong and can cause trouble for Nigeria.

“But if they work well and are cautious in their approach towards the match, they will get the win they need. Falcons should be able to beat Cameroon”Mabo added.
