Mount CMR Race of Hope kicks off in Buea Feb 14

The 30th edition of the Mount Cameroon Race of Hope is scheduled for Saturday, February 14, 2015 in Buea.

This edition of the ascent of Mount Cameroon, dubbed "Race of hope" kicks off tommorow in Buea, capital of the Southwest Region.

Until this time, 494 athletes including 25 foreigners were selected to take part in this traditional race on one of the highest mountains in Africa, which is about 4,100 meters above sea level.

Marathon runners have validated their tickets of participation at the end of the selection races that took place through the national triangle.

Including Ebolowa (Mount Ebolowa), Douala (Mount Bedi), mount Metchou (to the West) and mount Bankolo (in the Centre). Many of them will try to succeed Eric Mbatcha, winner in the category senior gentlemen during the last edition and Lisette Ngalim, victorious in the ladies.

To keep the public at the Molyko stadium after the departure of athletes, "there will be a competition on the stage that will allow a species of future talent detection", noted a member of the Organizing Committee.

As an innovation, the veterans selected for this race will now be classified by age and a winner will be based on each category. The organizers had also planned to organize the race of veterans a day earlier, i.e., today Friday February 13, 2015 before the deprogram for security reasons.

In the table of awards, the amounts of premiums remittances to the winners of the last edition in the senior ladies and gentlemen categories will be maintained; 10 million Cfa Francs for the winner, 5 million for the second and three million for the third.

As a reminder, these premiums were revised upwards following the return, last year, of the company Guinness Cameroon, as a sponsor of this event, after nearly 20 years of withdrawal.

During this long absence, each winner in these two main categories had received only three million Cfa Francs.
