Milla slams FECAFOOT officials; says their turn is next

Former Indomitable Lions’ striker, Albert Roger Milla has said the corruption unveiled within the world football governing body, FIFA, also exists in the management of football in Cameroon. He says the turn of FECAFOOT officials and godfathers at the Presidency and Prime Minister’s office should wait their turn.

Milla who was picked as one of the Ambassadors of the Qatar 2022 World Cup, in an interview with French language daily, Le Jour, stresses that no one can contradict him when he says football federations in Africa are corrupt.

Presidents of football federations in Africa should clean up their act before it is brought to law courts as it is the case with FIFA officials who are being paraded on TV channels across the world. “I want to call on the head of state to sanction officials managing Cameroon football. He can see that what I have been saying is now exploding. The proofs of embezzlement in Cameroonian football management are now visible,” Milla said.

Milla pointed out that what is happening in Cameroon at the moment is an image of the corruption scandal rocking FIFA. He, however, added that he is not interested in what Issa Hayatou is doing in FIFA, but that he would advice him to convene an executive meeting for brainstorming, in order to preempt court cases against the management of CAF.

Picking on FECAFOOT, Milla said the Cameroon Football Federation should get set. “They went as far as insulting the government, mixing up laws. We know them and their supporters; they are many. They are in the Presidency and the Prime Minister’s office. They have never thought things could turn out the way they are now. They should all tighten their belts,” he warned.

Quizzed on whether he would refund the money he was paid when he was made Qatar 2022 World Cup ambassador, Milla said he was hired even before the elections for a host for the competition. “I was hired on a fixed term contract. They used my image and I do not think that they would refund my image if I refund what they gave me.” He equally said he was selected like other renowned footballers around the world and left Qatar when his contract ended.free press ad

The Cameroonian football legend said he ignorantly accepted the offer to become the 2022 World Cup ambassador without knowing that shady deals were going on within FIFA. “I could not even imagine such maneuvers were possible. I supported Qatar because the country is like so many African countries which have never hosted the tournament.” He said, he would, however, like the Middle East to host the world cup regardless of what happened.

Talking about Sepp Blatter the FIFA scribe, Jérôme Valcke, Milla said both personalities cannot tell the world that they were not aware of the secret dealings. He said Valcke has a hand in what is happening to Cameroon football management. He stressed that the corruption revealed recently has been going on for about 24 years and urged the US to take investigations seriously and get to the bottom of the whole game.
