Lionesses make it to the final of the 2015 All Africa Games

The performance might seem trivial, yet it is worth its weight in gold.

Beating Nigeria in the semifinals of the women's football tournament at the All Africa Games in 2015 (2-1), Cameroon keeps her chances in the defense of her title obtained in 2011.

More importantly, the girls of Coach Enow Ngachu sent a clear message by dominating their nemesis: now, they are the queens in Africa.

Best of all, the case has been folded into a half, much like in the final of the African Cup of Nations in 2014, when the Super Falcones had scored two goals in the first 45 minutes for a success (2-0). This time, the roles were reversed. Thérèse Abena opened the scoring in the 10th minute before Mani Ngono made the score 2-0 four minutes later. The Nigerians reduced the score early in the second period, but the Cameroonians remain unperturbed.

One may think that the absence of the stars of Super Falcones is something to talk about. But Cameroon also had a team made up mostly of amateurs. For the final on Friday, they will face Ghana, who defeated Ivory Coast in the other semifinal. The Cameroonians and Ghanaians had separated on a draw in group game (1-1) and the Black Queens were then drawn at random. This will in any case be a remake of 2011 final.

The handball players have for their part, qualified for the semifinals by beating Burkina Faso yesterday (41-19). Cameroonian Basketball players were not as fortunate and were eliminated in the quarterfinals by Angola (51-58). Cameroon has still recorded two new bronze medals in judo with Seydou Nji Mouluh (-100kg) and Hortense Atangana Mballa (-78kg). Christian Rene Gobe had won a gold medal in the Shot Put for physically disabled while Sandrine Mbumi won the silver medal in the long jump. This brings the total of the Cameroonian delegation to 20 medals, including five gold medals.
