If people have the right, we can also do it - Joseph Owona

The President of FECAFOOT Standards Committee is serene. "We have done our job properly following the rules and the General Statute and of the electoral law and the law of 2011", says Joseph Owona. According to him, there is no reason to think that the current electoral process will still suffer an interruption.

The Chamber of Conciliation and Arbitration (CCA) of the National Olympic and Sports Committee of Cameroon (CNOSC) and the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) should not easily dismiss FECAFOOT in matters concerning it.

The first decision expected by FECAFOOT, is that of the Chamber of Conciliation and Arbitration of CNOSC, in one of the cases between the Standards Committee against Abdouraman Hamadou. The latter attacked the texts adopted at the General Meeting on 5 August, in particular, Article 23, paragraph b which he says do not comply with the provisions of the Act of 15 July 2011 on the organization and promotion of physical activity and sport in Cameroon.

"It is the right of Mr. Abdouraman to be at the Chamber of Conciliation and Arbitration and being in the Court of Arbitration for Sport. This will also perhaps one day give the opportunity to FECAFOOT to work, but I do not want to judge, "notes Joseph Owona.

Now, what if the Chamber of Conciliation and Arbitration CNOSC were to cancel the current electoral process? FECAFOOT should be able to replicate it.

"If people are right, I think we can make it. I know this is often said, but I must remind you that it is their job to do it right. In this Committee, there are people who have spent fifteen years as specialists in sports law at the Ministry of Sports. We continue to do right," warns Joseph Owona who continued to believe that the problem lies elsewhere than in the texts.

"Do you really believe that this is a legal problem? I do not believe. This is a problem of sovereign act of the Cameroon sports people. During the elections that have just taken place, everyone saw what the sports people said. The Standards Committee has no candidate," he recalls.
