I am a football candidate – Bell

Former goalkeeper of the Indomitable Lions, Joseph Antoine Bell who was one of the attendees of a coalition press conference at ‘Littoral Maison-mère’ was asked to re-define the very essence of his intention as a presidential candidate for FECAFOOT.

Joseph Antoine Bell who cleared the air about some misunderstandings regarding his membership in the former glories of Cameroonian football stated he does not see past glories as a priority.

"Old footballers are not at the forefront of any football club in a country. There is no line like ‘former glory’. Past players should be seen as the drive and should act as such”, the former goalkeeper said.

When asked by a journalist on his demeanor towards his former teammates as a possible president of FECAFOOT Bell replied saying, “When it comes to elections for new positions, stop wondering where ancient glories are, and what they do. They are not part of the candidates because of past glories”.

Maintaining his usual composure, he however did not deny the obligation on the fact that renowned players are key entities for the development of football in Cameroon.

"No one, and certainly not me, can claim to be the candidate of former glories. They are not intended to represent a candidate but play a key role in sustaining football in the country. The former players do not count”.

“They are definitely part of the old footballers, but do not have the glory. So I am not the candidate of former glories or footballers, I am the candidate of football, and football is much more important than footballers”, the former Marseille player stated.
