Gymnastics under the sign of recovery

This was the objective displayed at the launch of the national championship this weekend in Yaounde.

Three regions responded to the first day of the championship launched this Saturday, June 6, 2015 in Yaoundé: the Eastern, Central and South. A late start to the season which is due has the participation of gymnasts in various national competitions: the Fenassco A and B, the University Games, etc., according to the president of the Cameroon Gymnastics Federation, Emmanuel Awounou.

The delay, however, has not dampened the enthusiasm of young gymnasts. "This year it is under the sign of recovery. The level of gymnastics at the moment particularly in floor gymnastics, jumping, on beam for girls and boys and parallel bars. But the development of the discipline is held back by equipment problems and sometimes the loss of athletes. They get discouraged because every time athletes must participate in an international competition, there was lack of funds," explained Joseph Mebar, national technical director of the discipline.

In the perspective of a boost, the Fecagym account reinstates the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG), a body from which it is still suspended. "The Fecagym has not fulfilled certain rights from FIG, particularly on the renewal of its license. FIG had requested the letter of recognition from MINSEP, which was done. The MINSEP has approved the results of the last General Assembly. The record of the debt is on track because it is not huge. Finally, the statutes have been revised and updated. Before the end of this season, Cameroon should be reinstated," said a Fecagym executive.

As a novelty of the season, there will be more competitions. In 2014, a single competition was on the agenda, namely the cup of Cameroon. "This year we will have three days, in addition to the festi-gym, which is a gala in the discipline and the Cup of Cameroon," we learned.
