Nine stadiums in the country are set to be renovated this year, according to the communication department of the Cameroon Professional League of Football on Sunday.

Among the stadiums to have a facelift is the Meyomessala Municipal Stadium, the hometown of the President of the Republic of Cameroon.

The others are the Tiko stadium in the South West, Melong, Djombé and Edea in the Littoral, Mfou and Mbalmayo in the Centre, Bamendji and Bafoussam in the West, as well as the Meyomessala in southern Cameroon.

The list of these facilities was revealed by the head of communication and marketing of LFPC on Sunday afternoon during a radio program in the city of Douala.

Asked what motivated the choice of Meyomessala stadium in the southern region, he said that "it was at the request of the Colombe du Dja et Lobo team in Ligue 2 that we chose that stadium. It is not because it is the native town of the President of the Republic. Colombe decided to go play in Meyomessala, because of the closure of the stadium since FECAFOOT stated Sangmélima stadium is undergoing repair works," explained Richard Tong.

Nonetheless, this grant was for teams in Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 intended for them to have adequate playgrounds.
