Cricket Academy leads league

The cricket season was launched at the campus of the technical teachers training college on August 8 in Soa- Yaoundé.

The season which will see both the championship and cup competitions merged together, under the name ‘Joint Cricket Domestic League’, saw the Cricket Academy club from Douala take the lead in pool A while Warriors Cricket Club from Yaoundé emerged leaders in pool B.

Both teams took the lead after beating their opponents on the first day of play. Cricket Academy beat Path Finders by 45 to 44 runs while Warriors Cricket outsmarted Kop Pioneers Cricket club by 49 runs to 47.

Path-Finders are runners up in group A with 3 points, followed by Cheetahs Cricket club in the third position with three points also. Sparks Cricket club of Nkomo- Yaoundé are the ‘Benjamin’ of the group with zero point. In group B, Royal Cricket club is second, followed by Trailblazers Cricket club of Yaoundé with three points but distanced on runs by Royal Cricket club. Kop Pioneers trails the group with zero point recorded so far.

According to the president of the Cameroon Cricket Federation, Victor Agbor-Nso, the eight teams involved in the competition are divided into two groups of four teams each. By the end of the championship, each team would have played four matches making a total of 28 matches to be played over a period of two weeks.

The first two teams of each pool will qualify for the semifinals of the cup of Cameroon which will be played on away and return leg basis on November 7 and 8, 2015. The victors will clash in the finals of the cup of Cameroon.
