Coton Sport grab Cup of Cameroon for the 6th time

The 55th edition of the Cameroon Cup has seen Coton Sport of Garoua grabbing the league cup for the sixth time after thrashing Panthere of Bangante in a 2-0 victory.

The finals took place this Sunday 23rd November 2014 at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaounde.

The kick-off of the encounter took place at 4p.m and was watched by the President of the Republic, Members of Cabinet and over 35000 spectators.

The scores of the match came at the last ten minutes of play.

The first came when Nigerian born Kamilou Daouda visited the score board at the 81st minute.

This incredible goal, football critics say, was a tactical error committed by the goalkeeper of the Panthere Club of Bangante, Israel Kologni Kologni.

The scorer, Kamilou Daouda, who was a player of Al Ittahid in Lybia was later crowned the man of the match.

Brice Zimbori, captain of the Cotton and his energetic crew continued exhibiting agility in the field of play leading to the second goal by a Cotton striker Didier Mpondo who used an advantage over the defender, Cedric Djeugoue and scored the second goal in the match.

The 55th edition of the Cup of Cameroon also comes at a time when Cameroon has won the bid to host the 2016 African Cup of Nations and the 2019 Female Football Championship.

The President used the occasion to applaud efforts of the sports committee in the country and handed over trophies to winners and football authorities.

Coton Sport of Garoua gets the trophy for the sixth time having won the cup in 2003, 2004, 2007, 2008 ,2011 and 2014 while Panthere of Nde are two time winners:1998 and 2009.
