Cameroon end 47-year AFCON hosting drought

The Confederation of African Football announced the host nations for the 2019, 2021 and 2023 AFCON tournaments on Saturday in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Cameroon, Côte d'Ivoire and Guinea were chosen as Nations Cup hosts for the 2019, 2021 and 2023 editions respectively.

The last and only time the continental showpiece was hosted by Cameroon was in 1972, when Congo claimed their first and only African crown.

It will also be a second time for Côte d’Ivoire who were in charge of the 1984 edition, while Guinea never hosted an AFCON finals before.

Zambia were also bidding for the 2019 tournament, and Algeria for both the 2019 and 2021 events.

CAF further announced that voting on the hosts for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations will take place in the first quarter of 2015.
