CHAN 2016: Cameroon-Ethiopia match disrupted by power cuts

After an unexpected power outage at the Huye Stadium, it took 10 minutes for power to return during the Cameroon-Ethiopia match, yesterday.

While the Cameroonian team was about taking a corner kick at the 37th minute of play, darkness suddenly fell on the sports stadium to the disbelief of spectators and players.

Though the lights at other parts of the stadium returned, it took longer for the playing surface to be illuminated.

Long before this incident, the electrical system of the Stadium had already shown it was not good since the first quarter time of the game.

A black smoke was seen rising around the stadium, raising fears of a potential fire outbreak. As a result of this uninvited guest, the first half was extended.

Both sides held to a goalless draw in a very close encounter and the two teams have a chance of qualifying in the last round.
