The Sports Desk Editor of Eden Media Group, George Dinga, has been elected President of the Limbe Chapter of the Cameroon Association of Sports Journalists (CASJ).

George Dinga was elected at the weekend following an Elective General Assembly of the chapter.

During the hotly contested election for the post of president that was presided over by the regional president, David Mbua Evelle Kool, the anchor-man of Mega Sports over Eden Radio FM 98.1 narrowly beat his arch rival, opponent and bosom friend, Dean Mongo Eyieh, the Sports Desk Editor of Ocean City Radio by five votes to four.

Before the voting exercise proper, the vice president of the regional bureau, Clextus Abong, who was also part of the supervising team, read out the modalities for qualification to stand for any position and for voting which were all accepted by all the candidates and electorates.

George Dinga, who is going to be at the helm of the Limbe chapter for the next four years, now takes over from Clextus Abong and now has as daunting task to revive the chapter which will be so demanding following the hosting of some of the matches at this year’s African Women Championship and the 2019 African Nations Cup by the 20,000 capacity Limbe Omnisports Stadium.

The newly elected president, during his election speech, promised to bring everybody on board, even those who were against him during the election, for the success of the chapter.

He equally promised to work in close collaboration with his opponent of the election to increase the number of members by encouraging them to register and to ensure that each and every member sees reason for joining the chapter.

“I am going to work with each and everybody including those who voted against me”, Dinga said.

“I want to say thank you to all those who voted for me and to those who voted against, my election of today is not my personal glory but it is a glory for the chapter. I am going to work together with my opponent of the day, Dean Mongo because I know out of experience that he has a lot of ideas which are going to be beneficial to the chapter”, he added.

Meanwhile, beside the post of President, the positions of Secretary General and Treasurer were also contested for.

As concerns the Secretary General post, two candidates Aka Ntui Ayamba and Victor Itie stood for the position, and out of the nine members who voted, six voted in favour of Victor Itie as against three for Aka Ntui Ayamba. Meanwhile, the lone candidate for the post of Treasurer, Victor Libwea, was voted by acclamation.

At the end of the election, the Regional President, David Mbua Evelle Kool, during his installation speech, congratulated the newly elected executive members and urged them to work very hard and not for their personal interest but for the interest of the chapter. He equally promised the bureau that the regional bureau is going to work in close collaboration with the chapter.

The presiding officer equally thanked the vanquished for showing signs of maturity despite losing the election and urged them to give full support to the newly elected bureau for the success of the chapter.
