CAF Nations Cup 2017 qualifiers: Cameroon beat Gambia

Despite the heavy rain, Cameroon remained unshakeable and won the match against Gambia on the second day of the qualifiers for the CAN 2017.

The Indomitable Lions took advantage of the flaw committed by Vincent Aboubakar in the second half, allowing them to stay ahead of Group M.

Like Algeria, earlier in the day, Cameroon did not really shine during the few minutes into the game against Gambia at the Independence Stadium. The absences of Njie, Chedjou and Nyom have certainly boosted confidence in the ranks of the national team of Gambia.

Despite a higher ball possession, the Indomitable Lions did not get the opportunity to score in the first half. Apart from a dangerous header by Edgar Salli in the 37th minute, Cameroonians could not shake the Gambian defense.

As a reminder, Cameroonians had won their match against Mauritania in the final minutes thanks to the former Lorient striker, Vincent Aboubakar. However, few minutes after the match had started, Bedimo Moukandjo shot the ball over the Gambian net. Choupo Moting, Schalke 04 striker, had earlier made an attempt in beating the Gambian goalkeeper (14th) but to no avail.

Cameroonian players returned to the locker room without having found the opportunity to score goals. The Lions eventually found the solution in the second half (65th) with Vincent Aboubakar, while torrential rains fell on the pitch. The Porto player was God sent.
