Belinga talks about Finke, Kameni, Niger and his future

Alexandre Belinga Alexandre Belinga

The interim coach of the national football team, yesterday, had his first official press conference since his appointment on October 30.

Responding to questions from the press, Alexandre Belinga was not far from his mission, which is to qualify at the expense of Niger on 13 and 17 November, for the group stage of the qualifiers of the 2018 World Cup.

Determined to succeed, the Cameroonian engineer spoke on several points. Read the extracts below.

On the list of Finke

When our appointment arrived, notices were already sent to players to be summoned. We were, therefore, late and largely off-limits for publishing another list. But I am not against those who were called. I endorsed this list since I was part of the technical staff.

Therefore, there was no change. I have not come not to spoil everything. I will invent nothing. We have a few days to play two games that are very important for the rest of the qualifiers. That's what we're going to get down. We will do our utmost to ensure that everything goes well.

His relationship with Finke

I am a coach and I respect this profession. I respect all those who practice it. With what I have with Finke, even if you cut off my head, I will not say anything about our relationship. Because I respect him, I respect this profession. This is not because I am the new coach that I will reveal everything that happened with this gentleman. It would be disrespectful. Whether German or Italian, we are all coaches.

About his future

Looking to manage these two games (against Niger on 13 and 17 November, Editor's note.). The minister gave three months (to establish a permanent and definitive staff.) But what guarantees that I will still be alive at that time? If the evening of November 17 we are qualified, I think I will have fulfilled my mission. The rest we'll see. Our appointment speaks of interim coaches. This means that we are limited in time.

The return of Kameni

We are all Cameroonians and what bothers us is that we always try to manage individuals. I think that when a nation is in trouble, people must disappear. I'm not there to manage individuals, but the national team. The return of Kameni (Idriss Carlos.) should not be asked. I myself do not know what will happen to him. We start the course on November 9. We will look at the clues.

About Niger

While I was the assistant to Volker Finke, I was lucky to be the one that was sent for observation to follow the Somalia- Niger match which was played in Ethiopia, and the return to Niamey. I cannot give all the information that I have, but it is a very good team with good players.

There are many young people who were part of the selection of under-17 at the African Nations Cup of this category organized by their country. With the staff we will work on the information we have, to put them in trouble during the two encounters.
