Abel Mbengué sees Cameroon in AFCON 2015 finals

The former Cameroonian sports journalist called on the press to avoid "unnecessary controversy."

For the former sportscaster of the Cameroonian national radio, CRTV, Abel Mbengue, Cameroon should aim up to the next edition of the African Cup of Nations.

The retired journalist sees the Indomitable Lions nothing less than in the final. "We will return to the scene and the legitimate ambition is to be in the final."

However, he believes that to achieve this, the organization must be less finicky. "You have a very rigorous method," he said, calling on Cameroonian journalists to exercise restraint. "It is necessary that the Cameroonian press ceases to be a specialist in the controversy and unnecessary controversy."

Talking about the Group Cameroon is in, the collaborator of the president of CAF Issa Hayatou predicts a battle between Cameroon and Mali. Cameroon-Ivory Coast will be for him "a rematch" for Ivorians. Nothing less to be expected in "this match than a jamboree style of Abidjan," he smiled, recalling the last playoff game during the qualifiers between the two nations.

For the rest, Abel Mbengué promises a great tournament. To those in group C consisting of South Africa, Algeria, Senegal and Ghana as the "group of death", the former sports journalist said that "there is no more group of death in football particularly in African football if the African teams are not doing well in the World Cup," he added.
