2014 Mt Cameroon race winner to create foundation

The winner of the 2014 Guinness Cameroon race of hope who came second in this year's edition has made public his intention to create a foundation in his home town of Nkambe, Donga Mantung Division in the Northwest Region of Cameroon.

Talking to Cameroon Concord’s Bakah Derick on arrival in Bamenda from Buea Southwest Region of the Country Wednesday February 18, 2015, Mbacha Eric said he has been participating in the race for 15 years.

To the athlete, he is not getting younger and so there is need to begin laying the foundation for the future.

While accusing the Country’s Sports Ministry for ignoring athletes like him on issues of social welfare, Mbacha said he will not want to let that neglect to kill athletics.

This, he added is the reason why he wants to start the Mbacha Eric Foundation. According to the Nkambe hero, he was able to get this far, thanks to the support he received from his community and so its time to give back.

Mbacha Eric winner of the race of Hope in 2014 came second in 2015 after Godlove Gabsibuin who is also from the Northwest region of Cameroon. Mbacha Eric after his success last year was given a ticket to participate in a Kenya marathon where he finished 17th.

According to Mbacha he is a mountain runner but the Kenyan race is a race for Marathon runners. He pleaded Cameroon’s authorities to choose mountain races for them instead of marathons.
