EU-Africa Summit: MINREX hosts preparatory meeting

Heads of State and Government of member countries of the European Union (EU) and their counterparts of African Union (AU) will on November 11-12, 2015, hold a summit in Valletta, capital city of Malta.

The revelation was made in Yaounde on August 19, 2015, by the Chargé d’Affaires of the European Union Delegation in Cameroon, Michal Golabek after a working session with the Minister Delegate in the Ministry of External Relations in charge of Relations with the Commonwealth, Chief Dr Joseph Dion Ngute.

Top on the agenda of the meeting that witnessed the participation of representatives from the French, the United Kingdom and the German embassies, was the preparations for the upcoming confab on the long-standing immigration problem.

According to Mr Golabek, the meeting with the Cameroonian Minister Delegate permitted to exchange on issues that will be discussed during the Malta summit. “After all the drama that have been taking place in the Mediterranean, we believe that there is need for maximum mobilisation to prevent further tragedies happening and we have exchanged with the Minister on how to best achieve it”, he stated.

The EU- African Union summit is considered as an opportunity for the first step towards tackling the immigration problem in the Mediterranean that has waged on for several years.
