The new Ambassador of Germany to Cameroon, His Excellency, Holger Mahnicke has told the press in Yaounde that his country is ready to increase economic and trade relations between Cameroon and Germany. The German diplomat was speaking on August 17, 2015 after paying a courtesy call to the Minister of Finance, Alamine Ousmane Mey.

Holger Mahnicke said economic and trade relations between both countries were not very strong, thus his agreement with Alamine Ousmane Mey on the need to “intensify efforts to increase exchange between both countries.” He said the size of the economic relations between both countries needs to be developed.

However, in June this year, the erstwhile German Ambassador to Cameroon, Dr. Klaus-Ludwig Keferstein disclosed that the volume of trade between Germany and Cameroon is expected to hit 90 Euros (about FCFA 60 billion) by 2016. H.E Mahnicke praised government efforts in the preparation of the 2016 State budget, pledging support.

“We have good relations in all other areas and this is something we can rely and build on,” he said. Germany has been noted for support in the sustainable management of natural resources, good governance, the transparent management of public finances and the fight against deaths during childbirth.

The visit to Cameroon of Gunter Nooke, Personal Representative of the German Chancellor to Africa, on two occasions and the visit of German Members of Parliament is clear proof of the increasing bilateral relations between Germany and Cameroon.
