The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari met with Cameroonian and Nigerian border region Governors on Wednesday 29th July 2015 during his two-day visit to Cameroon.

During the meeting at the Unity Palace in Yaounde, the Governors of both countries revisited the state of security at the borders.

The Governors discussed ways of checking cross-border crimes, violent extremism and terrorism.

At the end of the session, the six Nigerian Governors and their five Cameroonian counterparts agreed upon opening communication amongst border states, building more infrastructure to secure the borders, operating common border patrols and sharing intelligence and surveillance.

The Nigerian Governors present at the meeting included: Kashim Shettima of Borno state, Jibrilla Mohammed Bindow of Adamawa state, Emmanuel Udom of Akwa Ibom state, Samuel Ortom of Benue state, Ben Ayade of Cross River state and Darius Ishaku of Taraba state.

On the other hand, the Cameroonian Governors who attended the meeting included: Adolphe Lele Afrique of the North West region, Bernard Okalia Bilai of the South West region, Abakar Ahamat of the Adamawa region, Jean Abate Edi’i of the North region and the Secretary General of the Far North region, Louis Florent Ribouem A. Moungam representing his Governor.

Some Ministers from the Cameroon Government were also present at the working session with President Muhammadu Buhari.
