African sports leaders acquire techniques in Yaounde

A two-day seminar on the development of sports in Africa opened in Yaounde on Wednesday July 15, 2015.

For almost a decade African sport is some experiencing changes which with the dissolution of the Supreme Council of Sports in Africa in July 2013 in Abidjan and the transfer of its functions to the African Union Commission. This new situation definitely created new stakes and challenges.

Furthermore, there are recurrent conflicts among some government and sports federations or associations often due to governance issues. It is in this light that a two-day seminar on the theme “African Sports Confederations faced with modern day issues” opened in Yaounde on Wednesday July 15, 2015.

Speaking at the opening, the Technical Adviser Number One in the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education, Dieudonné Wansi said African sports managers must review their policies of approach and intervention in order to give sport the solidarity and friendship between people and hope to the African youth. He called on the participants to follow the training attentively and to make good of the pertinent resolutions at the end of the workshop for the good of their respective sports confederations.

For two days participants discussed on the new architecture of sports in Africa, management of sports organisations and marketing of sports activities, among others. The seminar is an opportunity for participants to reflect and propose to decision makers ways and means likely to contribute to a better development of sport in Africa.

It is expected that the decisions that will ensue will enable Secretary Generals of Sports Confederations to share their rich experiences acquired over the years in the practical management of their confederations and the organisation of international competitions. Organised by the African Association of Sports Confederations, the seminar brought together participants from across the continent.
