UNESCO debates human rights and culture of peace

As part of follow up activities on the National Youth Day in Cameroon, the United Nations Education Scientific and Cultural Organization UNESCO has organized a discussion forum on human rights and the culture of peace.

More than 100 youths took part in the over 2 hours debates organized at the International Relations Institute of Cameroon IRIC on Friday 24th April 2015 at Amphi 250.

The Youths drawn from different Associations listened to presentations on the limits of Human Rights and the role they are called upon to play in the preservation of peace and insecurity.

Felix Ye Loiteohin UNESCO’s Director and Resident representative urged the young men and women to be more responsible and contribute to the social cohesion of their societies.

He argued that peace and security can be guaranteed if the youths work together for a precise course. To him, a better way of guaranteeing peace and security was for these young men and women to get more involved in more than two youth associations where solidarity is learned.

The President of the Cameroon National Youth Council Jean Marc Afesi Mbafor recommended that more reforms in the socio- economic and political system of Cameroon needs to be put in place to facilitate youth involvement.

According to him, the educational system needs to be professionalized to facilitate self-employment rather than the almost total dependence on the government for employment.

Politically Jean Marc also suggests that the culture of peace can he enhanced if youths are place in the decision making positions within the state.

Some Videos on human rights, peace and freedom to the future leaders were projected during the encounter.
