Cameroon export 146,893 tonnes of cocoa in six months of campaign

Since the start of the 2014-2015 cocoa marketing year in Cameroon, August 1, 2014, until ending of January 2015, exports of cocoa in the country has peaked to 146,893 tonnes, an increase of 10% over the same period in the previous marketing year.

According to the National Office of Cocoa and Coffee Board (NCCB), which revealed these figures, in the month of January, 30,942 tonnes of cocoa were exported, against 27,720 tonnes in January 2014. However, exports of January 2015 are sensitive down from 42,668 tonnes in the month of December 2014.

By way of comparison, in Ivory Coast, the world's leading producer, exports during the first five months (October 1 launch) campaign are estimated at 1.175 million tonnes as of February 15, 2015, against 1,130 million tonnes in the same period last year.

This level of exports is almost double the production of 600,000 tonnes expected by Cameroon by 2020.
