1000 Boko Haram insurgents attack Achigachia military camp

Boko Haram fighters have attacked the Achigachia Military Camp in northern Cameroon.

A statement from Cameroon’s Minister of Communication, Issa Tchiroma Bakary disclosed that approximately 1,000 assailants stormed the Achigachia Military Camp at 4:00 a.m. on December 28, 2014.

Cameroonian troops were forced to quit the camp. Thus, elements of the Nigeria-based Islamist sect benefitted from a four-hour siege to hoist their flag and steal some weaponry.

Five localities; Mokolo, Guirvidig, Waza, Amchide and Makari were equally targeted by the terrorists. 23 to 30 civilians lost their lives in the Mozogo district, while one Cameroonian soldier died along the Waza-Mora highway on December 26, 2014.

Lieutenant Colonel Didier Badjeck, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Defence said an authorisation for the use of aerial bombardment was rapidly approved by President Paul Biya. Strikes from the Air Force successfully pushed the assailants to flee the Achigachia military camp.

Meanwhile, sources say Honourable Cavaye Yeguie Djibril almost fell into the dragnets of Boko Haram. The Speaker of Cameroon’s National Assembly was at Tokombere, his village, while the Boko Haram attacks were going on. He was however rushed to Maroua by soldiers of the Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR).
