Nigerian refugees return to their country for the end of year festivities

The road safety measures put in place during the end of year holiday in the North is not intended to raise or hunt down the offenders of the road but also to supervise the Nigerian refugees who have voluntarily decided to return to Nigeria to celebrate with their family.

For days now, thousands of Nigerian refugees from communities such as Kolofata, Fotokol, Amchide and Mora pass through the northern region to return to their country. The gendarmerie which launched its road safety campaign also handles various Nigerian convoys that escort them on secure channels so that they join Mubi and Yola.

"It is an operation without complacency. We do not want to register cases of accidents during this end of year festivals. The awareness phase is complete, we are already in the phase of repression and any delinquent road user is punishable by a fine. If the refugees are not guided, they can take non-secured roads and fall nose-to-nose on people they have fled before", noted the Commander of the 3rd police region, Colonel Essoh Jules-César.

In all checkpoints between Garoua and Ngaoundere, the Pandora inter alia verify the speed level, the technical visit, thumbnails, insurance, loading, the identity of the occupants, operating licences, first-aid boxes and the condition of the tires. Those found culpable pay the penalties according to the rates in force.
