CPJ 2014 Report indicts Cameroon as two journalists imprisoned

Cameroon has been charged for the imprisonment of two journalists; Amungwa Nicodemus (The Monitor newspaper) and Zacharie Ndiomo (Le Zenith newspaper).

This is found in the 2014 worldwide prison census report published by the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) on its website on December 17, 2014.

The central African country appeared on the 2014 report after jailing no journalists in 2013.

CPJ believes that journalists should not be imprisoned for doing their jobs.

Meanwhile, the organisation states that “220 journalists have been jailed around the globe in 2014 compared to 211 in 2013. This is indicative of a resurgence of authoritarian governments.”

China stands as the worst jailer of the press with 44 journalists behind bars.

The Asian nation replaces Eritrea that dropped to the third spot with 23 arrests last year.
