Government finds solution to reduce petroleum subsidies

The pipeline for oil project was born from the observation of the situation currently prevailing. Indeed, in Cameroon, refined petroleum supply is ensured by the importation and local production (Sonara in Limbe).

These products are then transported by ships, trucks and trains via the road network and railway linking the main cities of Cameroon. Except that the current transport mode presents a threat to energy security and industrial development of the country.

In order to modernize the sector, the Ministry of water and energy (UNMEE) began in 2009, the construction and the design of a network of pipelines between Limbe and Yaoundé and between Limbe and Bamenda. With American funding (gift of United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA), feasibility studies were conducted by the American company Worley Parsons.)

These studies have been validated by an interdepartmental Steering Committee. The objective is to reduce subsidies of petroleum products at the pump, secure traffic and populations and achieve substantial gains to support economic growth through job creation, technology transfer, payment of taxes, fees and charges.

June 11, 2013, international notice for expressions of interest was launched for the recruitment of companies capable of fulfilling the first two sections of pipelines retained by the Government. Is at the end of the examination of the files of 14 applicants by the independent firm that 3PL Project consortium was declared first on the list, successful bidder for lot n ° 1 Limbe-Douala-Edéa-Yaounde.
