New water plant increases drinking water availability in Douala

Setting up a plant with a capacity of 100 m3 of water has strengthened the existence of drinking water in Douala whose daily capacity increased from 160 thousand m3 of water per day to 260 thousand m3.

The treatment plant of this new factory, which is located in the outskirts of Douala Yato cost 65 billion CFA francs, provided by China through a loan from the export-import (Eximbank) Bank.

This new drinking water production unit will enable the inhabitants of the Cameroonian economic metropolis, Douala, and its environs to largely resolve recurring water cuts as well as the voltage drop experienced in several quarters. The Minister of water and energy, Basile Atangana Kouna noted that "the situation of households and businesses will improve".

According concordant testimonies, the valves are regularly dry in several districts, particularly in peri-urban areas, where the Cameroon water utilities corporation (CAMWATER) and the Cameroonian waters facilities (COE) does not exist.
