Tough group because we dont know one another - Enow

After the draws of the seventh edition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015, Cameroon coach Enow Ngachu shared his thoughts about Group C: Japan, Switzerland, Cameroon and Ecuador.

Though he knows it is going to be difficult because the teams do not know one another, the African vice-champion says if there is good preparation the team can perform well.

The FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015 is set from June 6-July 5 with the following fixtures Cameroon-Ecuador, June 8, Japan-Cameroon, June 12 and Switzerland-Cameroon, June 16.

Read Excerpt:

What are the chances of Cameroon following the draws?

It will be difficult; we are playing against Japan, the defending champion. There is also Switzerland, it is true it is their first participation but they were the first to qualify. We are also two novices, Ecuador and Cameroon. If we prepare, well we can succeed. But, it is a tough group because we don’t know one another. The chances for all the teams here are 50 percent. However, Japan and Switzerland are the favourites of the group.

Does Japan, the defending Champion not scare you?

That Japan can frighten me is an overstatement, in football we respect teams, we have watched them play on TV. Japan for the moment is the best female football team in the world. If we prepare well we may have less difficulties. The game of football is played 11 against 11 and everything is possible.

Do you have a preparation programme already?

It is true that we had a tentative programme but we are going to retouch it now that we know the pairings. We are going to work with the National Technical Department to come up with something good.

What idea of the host city Vancouver?

The information we have about Vancouver is that a majority of the population there are Asians; especially Japanese, so it means we are going to have more Japanese in the stadium. We also know that it rains there a lot and we are going to play on artificial turf. We are going to take all these into consideration and come up with a good preparation programme.

Can Cameroon go beyond the group stage?

Yes for sure, but it will be difficult. We learnt a lot from our participation in the 2012 Olympic Games. As I say, if we prepare well, we can increase our qualification chances but it would be very difficult.

Do you have an idea of the countries you may wish to play friendlies with?

From the draws it means we shall want to play against one Asian country, maybe Korea or Thailand, probably two European countries and Colombia. This will help us have an idea of how football is played in the different continents.

How do you foresee your first game against Ecuador?

It is going to be very tough, because we don’t know them and vice versa, in such games it is good to be very careful so as not to be trapped. We need to prepare well.
