Vocational training to increase decent jobs

Minister Zacharie Perevet said developing vocational training will be embraced in 2015.

The Ministry of Employment and Vocational Training will function in 2015 with a budget of FCFA 19.185 billion. Of this amount, FCFA 3.620 billion will serve to boost investments and carry out other activities through which employment could be improved in the country.

Defending the package at the Budget and Finance Committee of the National Assembly on Sunday November 30, Employment and Vocational Training Minister, Zacharie Perevet said his ministry’s strategic goal in 2015 will be to contribute to increasing the supply of decent jobs by developing vocational training and improving labour efficiency and the vocational integration of at least 50,000 job-seekers per year.

He noted that his actions will take into consideration, as much as possible, the priority actions of Cameroon’s economic modernisation plan in the context of globalisation, integrating the Economic Partnership Agreement.

The Minister noted that promoting self-employment through the supervision of micro-project owners by the National Employment Fund and Integrated Support Programme for Informal Sector Stakeholders will be upheld. Popularising the decree laying down the conditions for use and implementation of labour-intensive approaches and developing partnerships in terms of employment, vocational guidance and training as well as improving job market information will be stepped up.

This will be through reviving the activities of the National Observatory of Employment and Vocational Training and organising job information days and employment exchanges. Improving the qualitative and quantitative nature of vocational training, Minister Perevet noted, will also constitute his area of interest in 2015.
