Cameroonians deprived of fish in Bakassi

Bakassi Peninsula is referred to as a fishing destination area in Cameroon. The expectation is that when somebody visits Bakassi, he must eat as much fish as he/she can.

But ironically, despite the much talked about fish everywhere in the area, there is no fish for Cameroonians even to our senior civil servants, so to speak.

All the fishermen are of Nigerian Nationality, reasons why all the fish is taken to Nigeria, where we understand there is a ready and expensive market.

The Divisional Delegate for Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries, for Ndian Humbus Marcus observed that it is a sad situation that Cameroonians living in Bakassi are unable to taste fish that is coming from their own territorial water.

He however, opined that there is hope in the horizon as the government through his ministry has embarked on the construction of fish market in the area, where all the fishermen and buyers will converge under strict control for the marketing of fish.
