The remark was made during the examination of the third phase of feasibility studies in the presence of the Secretary General, in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (Minhdu) Ahmadou Sardaouna.
According to Mathieu Bélanger of Groupement Cima, the project that will touch Bonapriso and its environs including “Bois de Singes” and Youpwé, will take into consideration roads, drainage and lighting when transforming the over 1,000 hectares of land into a veritable attraction site and a commercial hub.
The SG of Minhdu, who is also the President of the Technical Secretariat of Sawa Beach project, stipulated that the project with the objective to exploit the maritime zone by constructing high level hotels and other infrastructure will be of great economic importance to Cameroon.
According to him, it will not only beautify the port city and attract tourists but will also transform Douala into a modern cosmopolitan city. The project conceived in 2002 will showcase Cameroon to foreign investors and fortify the country economically to effectively compete with other towns in Africa where similar projects are on-going like Dakar, Libreville, Malabo and Ouagadougou.
The government Delegate to the Douala Urban Council, Dr. Fritz Ntone Ntone expressed optimism about the project that will transform the economic capital saying it is an opportunity for stakeholders to decide what they want Sawa Beach to look like by giving their own suggestions.
It is only upon the validation of the feasibility studies that the government will give the go-ahead for the development of infrastructure.
