2016/2019 AFCON: Housing Minister evaluates infrastructural facilities

The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Jean Claude Mbwentchou was in the South West Region to access the level of preparations in view of the upcoming African Football Cup of Nations to be hosted by Cameroon in the Women and Men Categories in 2016 and 2019 respectively.

The two day working visit that took place on 21 and 22 November 2014 began at the Molyko Municipal Stadium .The stadium which shall be for training by participating teams, is one of the many that have been earmarked for renovation.

The Minister`s next stop was at the Bokova-Bonakanda-Buea Town check-points, the Buea Council-Mount Mary Hospital road and the Upper Bonduma-Keppe Jackson`s Residence road. On each stop Minister Mbwentchou highlighted the importance of the projects which he argues should be properly implemented because they are important corridors that shall be used in transporting players and visitors.

Mr Jean Claude Mbwentchou left Buea to Limbe where he identified specific renovations within the frame work of his urban development missions. Accordingly, he visited health and lodging facilities, hotels, roads, restaurants, and other leisure sites.

He also made a stop-over at the 20000-seater Limbe modern stadium currently under construction.

This stadium shall host matches during the 2016 and 2019 competition. Government has earmarked FCFA 21 billion to provide access to the stadium from Ngeme which is approximately 1.2 km.

During the briefings in Buea and Limbe the Minister called on competent authorities to ensure that all projects are properly executed.

To the Mayors of Buea and Limbe the Housing Minister expressed the wish that the sites created during anniversaries celebrations shall be properly maintained to serve as touristic attractions during the competition.

The inspection mission that started in the Littoral region shall be extended to the other host regions.
