Let's grant general amnesty to Biya and family - Father Lado

A revolution in Burkina Faso against the revision of the constitution has inspired Father Ludovic Lado to appeal for a general amnesty to President Paul Biya.

The reverend argues that: “African leaders strive to eternalise their stay in power because they are scared to be humiliated with numerous court prosecutions. Thus they chose to protect themselves, their close aides and family members with a firm grip of state institutions.”

Father Lado supports the recent report by the International Crisis Group that alerts the public against a turbulent transition in Cameroon. This equally advises President Paul Biya to step down from power at the end of his mandate in 2018.

Furthermore, the Cameroonian born cleric acknowledged the relative peace that has existed in Biya’s reign, although he emphasises that the regime’s judicial record is catastrophic, and it will take a longer time to restore an ethical society.

Finally, he makes an appeal to political parties and the civil society for the creation of a platform, with the vision for a truth and reconciliation organ, and address this proposal to the Head of State. This will ensure a smooth transition where the president and the Sparrow Hawk convicts would be exonerated.
