Cmr'nians avoid Sierra Leonean delegation for fear of Ebola

Sierra Leonean delegation who came for the double confrontation against Cameroon on the 11th and 15th October met an unfriendly atmosphere as only few people came close to them for fear of contracting Ebola.

Resultantly, very few people had the courage to attend their last workout last Thursday at the Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium during the post game conference on Saturday, October 11, 2014.

A Cameroonian colleague is said to have refused to accept a gift of a Jersey offered to him by a player from Sierra Leone after Saturday's game. Psychosis also seems to affect the Cameroonian players who have not had the courage to shake hands with their opponents at pre-match ceremonies.

On instructions from the authorities, the Sierra Leonean group had been abandoned in their hotel since their arrival in Yaounde. "A member of the delegation may exit only in emergencies, accompanied by a security element with the consent of the head of security", says a source close to the team.

Players and coaches were subjected to periodic temperature checks in the morning, noon and evening by Cameroonian and Sierra Leone doctors.

The employees of the Hotel were sensitized on the prevention against the Ebola virus in order to take special precautions in dealing with their customers.

The hotel which has been emptied of its customers before the arrival of the foreign delegation also provided a large-scale disinfection operation after the departure of guests.

Even if they had to face the situation, members of sierra Leonean delegation were not disturbed by this particular treatment on Cameroonian soil. On the contrary, they continue to thank the authorities for having accepted this double confrontation in Yaoundé.

"The only problem we have with Ebola is that, we cannot play our matches at home", said Umaru Bangura, team Captain in a post-match conference. The delegation of Sierra Leone, according to sources close to the group was expected to leave Wednesday evening after the match.

Unfortunately, Sierra Leone remains one of the countries mostly affected by the Ebola fever epidemic. According to the latest figures revealed by the World Health Organization (WHO), the disease has already killed 930 people from 2,950 cases in this West Africa country.
