Yaounde Missing Girl Was Father's Rape Victim

Marie M. 14, a student of Sixième (Form 1) in the Government High School Mendong, Yaounde neighbourhood, is allegedly missing. Sources at the Gendarmerie Brigade in Mendong say Marie M. has been a victim of rape by her father, Emmanuel M, 44, for the past three years. According to the reports, Marie's mother died six years ago and the father allegedly replaced her with his wife.

The matter was reported by the authorities of the school after Marie complained to her friends in school last week. Sources in the Gendarmerie Brigade said Marie told the gendarmerie investigating team on Tuesday January 28, 2014 that her father started raping her when she was eleven years old. She said whenever she refused his advances, he would beat her up.

Our source said Marie told the gendarmes that when he mother was still alive she once caught them in the act and hit her father with a stick. Before leaving, Marie left a note at the gendarmerie brigade saying that if anything happens to her father should be held responsible. She even left the telephone number of her father. Since then, Marie is nowhere to be found. Our source further said neighbours reported that Marie was tied and taken to the village by force.

Emmanuel M., a teacher by profession, upon questioning said his daughter was sent to the village with the consent of his family. He however did not give any answer concerning the alleged rape accusations. The gendarmes have asked him to bring Marie for further investigations on the matter.
