Over 10,000 electorates registered in the West

From 2 January to August 27, 2014, the operation for the revision of the lists of electors allowed saw the registration of 10 282 voters in 40 local antennas of the Western region. These figures will be consolidated, Monday, in the region after the close Sunday evening of registration in the various communal antennas.

However, this performance is considered to be insufficient relative to the projections, because potential voters in the region were estimated at 101 778 at the time of the launch of the process.

Pr Elie Narges, a member of the electoral board of Elections Cameroon (Elecam), revealed that the electorate is conspicuous by a lack of enthusiasm. During the evaluation of the revision operations underway since August 25, participants have justified this situation by the fact that people hide behind the pretext of "we are not in an election period”.

The Western region is mainly agricultural. Farmers prefer their field work. There was collaboration with the radio community and door-to-door awareness, mobile caravans at the level of the municipalities with high potential voters," says Elise Cyrille Mandji, head of Communication at the regional delegation Elecam in the West.

These strategies will be surely implemented in 2015. After these operations, there will be a grooming of the lists before the publication of the file consolidated next December.
