Nigerian consul general hails peaceful coexistence

Dan Wari Nwazim recently met with Bui Division administrative authorities and Nigerians living in the locality.

The Nigerian Consul General to the South West and North West Regions with residence in Buea, Dan Wari Nwazim, has urged his compatriots residing in Kumbo, Bui Division of the North West Region, to reciprocate the peace and love from Cameroonians.

Wari Nwazim made the remark while addressing members of the Nigerian Union in Kumbo on the occasion of his maiden visit to Bui Division on August 9, 2014.

He stated that in Nigeria, aliens are identified by consular identity cards that are recognised by Yaounde. However, some “zealous” law enforcement agents on the road between Yaounde and Kumbo do not recognise them and insist on resident permits and passports.

He added that some of these policies implemented at local levels are not actually approved by Yaounde.

Wari Nwazim stressed that it is only when the law enforcement agents are not sure of what the person is doing that they should ask for his professional attributes, or request residence permit.

Responding, the Senior Divisional Officer for Bui, Theophile Nzeki, said Cameroon and Nigeria are two friendly countries and called on Nigerians resident in Bui to continue to be hardworking, peaceful and law-abiding so as to continuously enjoy the fruits of their labour.

He, like the 4th Deputy Mayor of Kumbo Council, Ibrahim Yufenyuy, said their common enemy was the Boko Haram sect.

They noted that without the collaboration of citizens to facilitate the sect’s activities, they cannot succeed. They therefore called on the citizens to denounce suspicious people in their community.

The Secretary General of the Nigerian Union in Bui, Nwabueze Kenneth Ayoha, requested that such visits should become routine. He appealed to the Consul General to make efforts to ease admission procedures of their children into Nigerian Universities.

Nwabueze Kenneth thanked the Bui administration and the Fon of Nso for their hospitality, protection and fatherly care. He reiterated their commitment to be law abiding.
