Schools busy with students registration

The payment of salaries since August 25, coincided with the ministerial decision to launch registration.

Registrations for students into government secondary schools are underway in the country. The exercise which kicked off on August 25, follows an announcement by the Minister of Secondary Education, Louis Bapes Bapes, during a meeting to evaluate last school year and the state of preparedness for the 2014-2015 academic year.

In Yaounde, the different schools are busy with the registration formalities. At the Government Bilingual Practising High School in Yaounde, the administrative staff officially resumed on August 25 while teachers will resume today, August 27.

Parents queued up in front of the bursar’s office to get the necessary information. At the secretariat of the Principal’s Office, students who passed the GCE Ordinary and Advanced Levels were busy collecting their results slips.

The Bursar of the school, Suzanne Ngono said parents had been submitting documents for admission and the process will continue today. She however said registration into Form One has started because there are six classes for Form One.

She explained that the Permanent Committee for Admissions and Recruitments will hold in the days ahead to examine the different documents before the official list will be published.

The story was similar at the Lycée Général Leclerc Yaounde where parents waited impatiently in the secretariat of the principal’s office to submit their children’s documents.

One of the workers in the students’ department who asked for anonymity said documents are being submitted to the administrative staff which is on standby and the last day for submission of documents is August 29.

The committee in charge of registration and recruitment is expected to hold one week before the official reopening date to examine the different documents before the final list will be published.

The official reopening date for the administrative staff is September 1.

He explained that the administrative staff is busy tidying up the campus so that the students will begin the new school year in a clean environment.
