AES Sonel to use web, mobile technologies

Joel Nana Kontchou , new Managing Director of AES Sonel, the company that produces and distributes electric power in Cameroon, has placed the customer at the top of his priorities, by "exploring the wide open fields of applications for mobile and internet, to enhance interactivity with customers, integrate mobility and increase response (from the company)”.

“We want to do better and faster”, he said in an interview with the government daily.

He argued that mobile and internet in Cameroon are tools that can help quickly reach maximum consumers more easily.

"Today, nearly 15 million Cameroonians have a mobile phone. With the constant decline of the mobile terminals, Cameroonians are using more and more Internet services via their mobile. There are reports stating that Cameroon has almost 2 million Internet users," he says, to explain the reasons for the choice of ICT to improve relations of the electricity operator to its customers.

AES Sonel, which was acquired by Actis UK Investment Fund, plans to invest 170 billion CFA francs in the electricity sector in Cameroon in 2014-2018.

On this five-year budget, 30 billion CFA francs will be spent on improving the business of the company, which integrates customer relationship.
