Corrupt pastors, church officials are Boko Haram - Nico Halle

Ntumfor Barrister Nico Halle, National President of the Christian Men’s Fellowship (CMF) of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon, the PCC, has described Christians, church officials and clergy who go contrary to the teachings of Jesus Christ as Boko Haram.

“We are in a decadent situation because we have elected to be in darkness. When you terrorise the people, you are a Boko Haram. When you mount the pulpit and inflict pain on the Christians, you are a Boko Haram.”

Nico Halle was speaking at the Synod Office of the PCC during a ceremony, Friday, August 15, 2014, organized by the CMF National Executive Committee to thank and congratulate the moderator of the PCC, Rt. Rev. Dr. Festus Ambe Asana for his service to the church.

As the five-year mandate of Rt. Rev. Dr. Asana ends this year, Ntumfor Nico Halle urged the church to organise free and transparent elections to choose new officials to head the church.

Asked what the moderator has done to be venerated, Ntumfor Nico Halle answered in the following words: “If the Moderator had achieved nothing, then we will not be here. We’ve come to congratulate the Moderator, to venerate him and to fellowship with him and his family. We are congratulating him for his wonderful track record as Moderator.

When he was elected in Kumba five years ago, he took us by storm, announcing that change had come to the PCC. Prophets of doom might have questioned how he wasgoing to effect change. And he hurriedly added that accountability and transparency will be the watchwords of his mandate.

We have been following him in the execution of that vision; those were pregnant pronouncements in public. He committed himself to realise for the good of the PCC to God’s glory and for the good of our nation and beyond.

At the end of his mandate, we realised that his watch words of accountability and transparency have been largely executed because the resources of the PCC are healthier than before.This is not to give the impression that our former Moderators did nothing. We mean that when a new person takes office, he has a blueprint. As the Rt. Rev. Moderator retires from office at the end of this year, even though not tired, so far, we can score him high.”

In response, the PCC Moderator said “We are coming to the end of our mandate, but we’ll work very hard.”

“I’m happy to say that the PCC is waxing strong and that I see a lot of future in the church. As I leave the church for my retirement, I will continue to pray for the church – so I am not going away.

When I look back and see the numbers of congregations are increasing, the number of Christians joining the church and the young people who make up a large portion of the Christians, my heart is overjoyed. The church is alive and vibrant. That makes me go on retirement happily.”
